Playa Estero

A sandy beach can be enjoyed at the mouth of the Estero San José, the lush estuary that starts just east of the Holiday Inn hotel. This oasis is home to more than 350 species of wildlife and vegetation (200-plus species of birds alone), and can be explored on foot, or via kayaks rentable at El Ganzo Beach Club. Not recommended for swimming, it is nevertheless a worthwhile trip in an area that is otherwise not known for its lushness. Public parking is available just beyond the Holiday Inn. Amenities: Parking lot. Best for: walking; sunrise.
